this morning as i opened my inbox, i was struck by the e-mail that i found from one of the best websites that i have stumbled across: values.com. every morning i get an inspiring e-mail that has a wonderful and positive quote. here is this mornings:
“Kindness in words creates confidence.
Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.
Kindness in giving creates love.”
—Laozi; ancient Chinese philosopher, central figure in Taoism
kindness is something that i feel a lot of people have lost. if you ever ask me what i dislike the most i will tell you mean people (and snakes, but that's another blog another day). i can't stand it when someone passes me on the two lane farm-to-market road, in which i live on, and when i am clearly going the speed limit, and then they proceed to flip me off. i also have a problem with people who are mean to animals. i feel that if you are kind, then those around you in turn will want to be kinder. the above quote is a great way to put my thoughts, which are usually incomprehensible to the normal sane person, into words.
if we use kindness in our words we will in turn create confidence in others, and they will be kinder because of that. it's a great kindness cycle that we are responsible for creating. how awesome is that?!? now, i'm not so optimistic that i'm oblivious to the fact that even when we try to be super duper nice to people they still are mean to us. when that happens, i just shrug my shoulders and move on. that's all you can do. i think people are mean because they are unhappy with their current situation, and when your nice, you show them that you are totally satisfied with your current situation and this makes them jealous and they then take that out on you. make-a sense???? well, it does to me.
so, the moral of this blog is: be kind. when your dealing with a mean person at work and just want to slap them....be kind. say something totally nice that will knock their socks off.
i remember when i worked at the mall at a retail store, our district manager would always tell us, "be as nice as pie." i took this to mean, when they're yelling at you, just smile and move on. she said that this "gets" them more than anything.
i challenge you to be kind today...........please.......... :0)
