~grab a colored pencil and highlight the verses or passages that stand out to you while your reading. now this tip doesn't really work with romance, but when your reading non-fiction, the bible, or even Christian fiction, this helps identify things that are important to you without making you stop and write them down. plus, when you use a colored pencil instead of a highlighter, it doesn't bleed through to the next page.
~keep a journal or small notebook close by. find some fun-colored pens, and when your finished reading whatever your reading for that day, jot down important thing that stood out to you. i used to raid the pen isle (who am i kidding, i still do) when i was in college for colored pens to make my notes more interesting and to keep myself awake during lectures. this method has permanently stuck!
~record the number of pages or chapters that you have read. this will show you your progress. when you look back after a few months you'll be amazed at how much you have read.
~ make a list of what you want to read. this helps you to keep up with what you're interested it. (don't forget the fun-colored pens!!!!)

I love marking in my Bible too! In high school, we had to mark all books, so that helped get me really into putting notes in books.

Do you ever write down the date you start a book of the Bible? It's kind of fun to jot it down on the page and then come back to it years later and remember what was going on in your life the last time you read it.
