~~Summer Bible Study~~

Here are some great verses from yesterday and today's readings -

~The fool gives vent to all his anger; but by biding his time, the wise man calms it. Prov. 29:11

~ Correct your son, and he will bring you comfort, and give delight to your soul. Prov. 29:17

Tomorrow starts the second part of the bible study that involves Proverbs 31. There are 31 verses and there are 31 days in the month of July. I am going to study one verse per day. You may think that this is not much to do, but once you get into this chapter you will understand the significance behind this intensive study. Also, go back and read previous verses in chapter 31 as the month progresses.

Some of you may have stopped reading some where in the middle of June. That's okay! Start tomorrow fresh and new. Begin with us on Proverbs chapter 31. One verse a day is easy. You can try and read a chapter a day when August rolls around!

June has been a month of excitement and learning. I have found that I look forward to reading my chapters each day. I can't wait to hear the insight that God gives us as we embark on Proverbs 31!!!!

Happy Reading!

~Summer Bible Study Buddies~

Hello my fellow summer bible study buddies!!!! Here are some key verses from this weekend's reading that I found extra wonderful:

~ When a man walks in integrity and justice, happy are his children after him. Prov 20:7

~ A newsmonger reveals secrets; so have nothing to do with a babbler. Prov 20:19

~ He who pursues justice and kindness will find life and honor. Prov 21:21

~ A good name is more desirable than great riches, and high esteem, than gold and silver. Prov. 22:1

~Train a boy in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not swerve from it. Prov 22:6

~ Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge. Prov 23:12

Starting in the middle of chapter 22, we begin reading the sayings of the wise. These are really good. They continue on through chapter 23. It's interesting to me that I know right from wrong, and yet I chose to do wrong. I think that is what these few chapters are talking about. It tells us the way to live, but if we chose to ignore it and go about it our own way, then we are foolish.

I'll be the first to admit that most of the time I am foolish. I try to do things the "Lindsey's Way" first and when that fails (which it usually does) I turn to God for guidance. Why don't I just turn to him in the first place???? Wouldn't that save me a lot of time and heartache? Of course it would!!!

I hope all of you that signed up to read Proverbs with me are keeping up and getting something out of it. I can honestly say that I feel a change in myself since I started reading the Bible more. I find myself listening to more Christian music than I did before, reading better books, and also thinking about what I do before I do it. Now, I'm not perfect, nor will I ever be perfect. But, we have to try to be better. If we try, God will see that and He will be so proud!

I hope everyone is having a marvelously blessed week!!!!!

~~Summer Bible Study~~

Here is the 2nd Tuesday installment of our Summer Bible Study "get-to-gether." I'm happy to report that we have 9 buddies that are joining us in our quest to read and study God's word more....Yippy for all of ya'll!

This past week it was hard for me to establish time to read and to study.....we we're only doing one chapter a day! So.....I challenge everyone to get caught up and to stay on it for the rest of the week, and next Tuesday we'll see where everyone is.

Today our reading is from Proverbs Chapter 9. I liked this chapter, but I will have to say that yesterday's chapter really struck a cord in me. Let me share it with y'all.

~~Proverbs Chapter 8:32-36~~
32 ~ "So now, O children, listen to me;

33 ~ instruction and wisdom do not reject! Happy the man who obeys me, and happy those who keep my ways,

34 ~ Happy the man watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts;

35 ~ For he who finds me finds life, and wins favor from the LORD;

36 ~ But he who misses me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
Now, these few verses really put it "all" into perspective. "Happy the man who obeys me..." Think about it Sisters! Are we sad when we do things that please God......or are we sad when we commit a sin? I know that some of my happiest times are when I am doing things that please the Lord. Example-Taking care of my family, reading books (the Bible, Christian fiction) that challenge me to be a better Christian, mother and wife, saving money, etc. Now, here are some things that make me sad (note: maybe not at the moment, but eventually) Drinking too much, listening to music that says bad things (even though I really like the beat and I know all the words.....yadda yadda yadda), reading juicy, steamy romance novels that make me blush (yes, they are interesting, but I mean really, does that even happen in real life???) laying on the couch and devouring a bag of Double Stuff Oreos with a cold glass of milk.........catch my drift?

So, I guess my point and also King Solomon's point is........do the things that make you happy, but also make sure that they make God happy too. Remember that old saying, "What would Jesus do?" (My hubby likes to call that What Would Joey Do!!) Well, maybe we should ask ourselves that question more often. I mean, if you really think about it for a minute, it sure would make our decision process a bit easier.

I hope every one is being blessed by this wonderful book of the Bible, I know that I am. Please feel free to comment and let me know any insights that you have or anything in general that you want us to know!

~~Summer Bible Study~~

Here is the first of my Tuesday Summer Bible Study posts, and I am super excited about it! I can't believe that I already have some buddies reading with me!!! This post is pretty much just a reminder to keep reading! If you miss one day, don't get down! Read two chapters the next day. And since July is dedicated to one chapter in particular, you can start today or tomorrow or next Monday if you want to and then just push back our July assignment. I say this because I am one of the world's greatest at starting something and then stopping because I get behind! So, I think that a little flexibility is just what is needed.

Yesterday we read the first chapter in the book of Proverbs. To me this chapter really talks about the pitfalls that evil puts out there for us. Proverbs is full of wisdom and truth, and in the first chapter we hear Wisdom speaking to us. She warns us. I love this! She also says that anyone who listens to her and obeys her will dwell in security and peace (vs. 33). This such simple advice, and yet I find it so hard to do.

It's easier to do the things that make us happy and to turn away from the things that challenge us. For me, I know that going out and partying is way more fun than staying at home and cleaning and cooking and doing all those other things that are expected of me. But the Bible says that we will be rewarded for doing those good and right things. It's really hard for me when I have friends call and ask me to go out. I will have to learn to say "no, I have things that are more important to do."

One of things I hate to do the most is laundry. It is time-consuming and sometimes I let my dirty clothes get out of hand and then I have a long day of washing and folding ahead of me. My grandmother told me once that when I don't want to do something around the house I should give it to God. I should pray and sing as I do these things, because they make God happy. This has really helped me. It gives me encouragement in the tough times when the Oreo's and the t.v. are calling my name!

Comment with any thoughts or insights that God has given you in light of this chapter.

I have decided to definitely post every Tuesday (hopefully) on our Bible Study and then do some other posting on it during the week when I feel like God is leading me to share. Hopefully we'll have more buddies sign up! Check the blog daily for others comments and ideas!

Don't give up! Work at your own pace. In the side bar of my blog there is a link to the Bible (it's Catholic, but it's still a Bible!). This makes it easier to read while at work!!! Fun stuff!

~~Summer Bible Study~~

Ok, I think I have finally found a Bible Study that I really really really want to do. I found it here at the Women Living Well Blog. Here is what it entails:

June~Read one Chapter of Proverbs each day since there are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs. I know that there is an extra chapter.....but we'll take care of that in July!

July~This month is dedicated to the 31st chapter of Proverbs (one that is very near and dear to my heart). July will be spent studying, praying, meditating, and memorizing this great chapter that outlines for us the way God intends for us as women to live our lives.

August~Re-read Proverbs (the entire book) for a second time.

I really like this Bible Study because it takes a book of the Bible and helps you to really become familiar with it. I totally plan on doing this myself, and I would love to have some blog buddies join me. I'll make us our own weekly post (probably Tuesdays) and also a Bible Study Buddies section on the side of my blog! Comment and let me know if you plan on joining me so I can list you! And don't worry if you start after today.....we have three whole months to dive deep into this great chapter of the Bible!
